Yao Ming’s basketball career is now officially in jeopardy. The seven time all-star center has decided to undergo surgery on his fractured left foot with hopes that it will help him come back to play in the NBA again.
Yao will most likely miss the 2009-2010 season due to the injury and he possibly could never step foot on a basketball court again. Yao still feels confident that he can come back and play again and he had this to say about his future. “I know I have a lot of work ahead of me before I can be back on the court, and I am committed to do whatever I can to make my recovery 100 percent successful. I have full confidence I'll play again."
Even though Yao is confident about his return to the court it still looks like there could be some issues standing in the way. With a guy that size putting so much stress on his feet and knees night in and night out it’s really hard to say how much longer he can hold up. One good thing that he does have going for him is seeing a player like Zydrunas Ilgauskas who dealt with the same foot injuries throughout his career but continues to play pain free and at a high level.
It now becomes a wait and see game for the 28 year old NBA superstar and the team he plays for the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are a team who can’t afford to lose any more players as they already have a roster that is in disarray. With Tracy Mcgrady always hurt and Ron Artest heading to L.A. the Rockets will be anxious to get Yao back on the court as soon as possible.
